“Kayla’s Lullaby feat. Kalispell” is the second single to emerge ahead of Lost Midas’ second album, ‘Undefined’. This digital release showcases the heartfelt electronic pop song “Kayla’s Lullaby feat. Kalispell”, both in its original form and remixed by Wrongtom, while the bonus cut “San Jacinto feat. Ken Nana” sees Lost Midas delving into the more experimental corners of his gleaming production style.

Lost Midas is the project of producer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jason Trikakis, who is originally from Boston but now rooted in LA – a city which fascinates and frustrates in equal measure, and whose contrasts and extremes heavily influence his sound. “It can be a shallow, lonely place; when you finally find authenticity, you don’t let it go”, he elaborates. “The musicians I’ve collaborated with on this record are some of the most genuine people I know”. Hedevelopedmuch of his new material with the help of friend Josh Wood –an in-demand songwriter and arranger whose major collaborations include projects for Janet Jackson, Pitbull and Krewella.

Under his BMG-signed vocal moniker Kalispell, Wood features prominently on this single. Hisradio-friendly pop sensibility andear-candy hooks combine with chopped up vocal harmonies and synth textures for the perfectly poised“Kayla’s Lullaby”, on which Trikakis’ empathetic lyrics take the perspective of a father explaining to his daughter why he and her mother can no longer be together. “Despite him not being around as much anymore, he reassures her that he will always love her”, says Trikakis. “He pleads, "Whether you choose to forgive me, you’re still my baby."”

The remix from London’s Wrongtom, whose previous work with artists from Roots Manuva to Django Django attest to his genre-bending sensibility, sidesteps into a soulful lover’s rock sound. The reggae- and dub-leaning producer, who drops his collaborative album with Ragga Twins this Spring, ran with the warm and organic sound of Lost Midas’ electronic production, adding live elements and an abundance of percussion inspired by, in his own words, “my love of free jazz records - things like Pharoah Sanders when he had two basses and loads of percussionists.”

Named after one of California’s striking mountains, which for Trikakis have come to symbolise peace, reflection and escapism from the madness of LA, instrumental cut “San Jacinto feat. Ken Nana” grew from a jam with Ken Nana, a talented producer and half of the alternative R&B duo, MIKNNA. The fun-filled and relaxed session vibe spills over into the final track, the jam chopped and arranged in signature Lost Midas style into a buoyant yet off-kilter and unpredictable cut.

Lost Midas’ new work attests to a year-or-so spent stripping his musical methods back and rebuilding, putting a strong focus on the deceptively simple art of classic song-craft. While saying more with a lot less, the vital essence of his sound remains: ethereal synths are set into sharp relief by the crisp, commanding and inventive beats to be expected of a producer whose discovery of electronic production followed a successful early musical career as a hip hop drummer.

His sophomore LP sees his diverse musical influences filtered through a maturity and an acceptance of himself and his position in a crazy world.

Lost Midas Los Angeles, California

Lost Midas is the alter ego of Boston born Jason Trikakis, who first established himself as a hip hop drummer throughout his teens and into his ‘20s.

Mastering a range of instruments along the way (including his current favourite, the keys), he gradually developed an obsession with composition and the endless possibilities within the realm of electronic production.
